Capcom: Resident Evil 2 PSN Release Is A Priority

With such an expansive library, the selection of purchasable PSOne classics from both the North American and European PlayStation Store is lacking right now — it’s something we’ve lamented over numerous times in the past. Now that both the PS3 and PSP have their own store, will publishers place more of an effort to get these classic titles on digital format?

At least one publisher is: Capcom. Speaking on the company’s official forums, VP Christian Svensson dropped word that Resident Evil 2 is planned for a PSN release stateside. It’s on the list of things to do currently and will be bumped up priority-wise once HD Remix is released, says Sven:

[Capcom has] a lot of work to do on the PS1 side of things still. I hope to bump that up the priority list of “things to do” after HD Remix is out the door. There’s a lot of internal issues to work out to get that rolling properly.

This is good news. Resident Evil 2 is one great example of a title that is long overdue to hit the store. Here’s hoping other publishers follow suit, especially given that Sony is now offering custom storefronts.
