The NPD Group has released its monthly video game hardware and software sales figures for the month of April. According to the results, Rockstar’s open-world crime thriller sold a total of 2,850,000 units, making it the best-selling software title on both PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 for the duration of April.
“GTA IV captured two of the three top game spots, realizing an attach rate of 20% to the combined Xbox 360 and PS3 install bases. With only 5 days at retail during the reporting month, GTA IV is one of the fastest-selling titles in video games history,” said analyst Anita Frazier.
The Xbox 360 version of GTA IV took top honors sales-wise, pushing 1,850,000 units, while the PS3 version sold a million copies.
In terms of hardware sales, Nintendo pulled well ahead of the competition, selling a whopping 714,200 Wii and 414,800 DS units. Impressive, considering this was the same month GTA IV launched after all.
