Additional Details On Blu-ray To PSP Movie Transfer

Posted by x3sphere on January 9, 2008 @ 5:46 pm

Details on the recently announced Blu-ray to PSP transfer feature have been revealed. As initially revealed, future Blu-ray titles will contain a portable copy of the movie on the disc itself. This portable copy will be about 1GB in size and will take about 3-5 minutes to transfer via USB to your PSP’s Memory Stick PRO Duo. Potentially, the feature can be used with every future Blu-ray title, but Sony is still figuring how to work out the DRM implementation (ugh).

If all goes according to plan, expect the feature to hit Blu-ray disc later this year.

Why do i see in the picture a usb psp charger?=X

Kwipper says:

Wait.. this is retarded. Isn't the whole point of blu-ray so you can watch high definition movies, what is the point of doing this, if all you're going to do is compress it and resize it to PSP sized format?

frosty5689 says:

saves time converting?(good for nubs)

x3sphere says:

Well it's kinda nice. I mean, if you want to watch a movie you have on Blu-ray on PSP, then ripping it and converting it to a PSP-compatible format takes hours.

This way, a pre-converted PSP version of the film will stored on the disc so you can copy it over via USB in a matter of minutes.

frosty5689 says:

ripping blu-ray disks are kinda complicated too since most ppl don't acturally have a blu-ray drive on their comp.=X

You also need to remember that in the UK, it is still illegal to make personal backups - so this is a way of enabling us to have a copy of the film on the PSP as well as at home on the High Def telly without having to circumvent the DRM / copyright...

frosty5689 says:

Yea and who would sue you for having a personal back-up?(unless you distribute it)

TimTiger says:

$ony.

frosty5689 says:

Um.. the point is they won't bother to as long as you don't distribute it.
