Activision Plans To Resurrect Bond Franchise

The Bond franchise seems like the perfect fit for a video game, but sadly, we’ve been subjected to years of mediocrity ever since EA picked up the franchise from MGM Interactive after Rare released Goldeneye for the N64, which is often regarded as the greatest Bond game to date.
Now as you may know, EA’s contract with MGM expired and Activision secured rights to the franchise until 2014. So what’s next for the franchise? Speaking at the BMO Capital Markets conference, Activision CEO Bobby Kotick commented that Activision is committed to reviving the Bond franchise, and says that they have their best development studios working on a new Bond game.
It suffered a lot because it wasn’t a focal point of Electronic Arts’ efforts over the past five years and they have such a broad portfolio of franchises that this one didn’t get the attention it deserved.
We have our best development studios working on the product, we have a second team working on another Bond product and we’re putting great resources against it.
Exciting news. Let’s hope Activision has what it takes to do this franchise right.
