3.80 M33 To Be Fully Upgradeable via Network Update

Posted by x3sphere at January 10, 2008, 6:46 pm

Mathieulh has sent word that the forthcoming 3.80 M33 custom firmware will be fully upgradeable via the PSP’s Network Update feature. Meaning, when future updates come out for the custom firmware, users will be able to launch Network Update and go through an automated process to update the firmware — it’ll download all of the necessary files. Of course, you’ll need an active WiFi connection.

How cool is that?

Wow! The fourthcoming 3.80 through the network? Or is this a feature with the new M33-3.80 for upgrades after m33-3.80?

x3sphere says:

It's a feature for upgrades after 3.80 M33. i.e. if 3.80 M33-2 comes out, you will be able to update straight through Network Update.

The firmware will be released soon :) I can't give you a specific date yet.

Neo1607 says:

MenaceInc says:

there's be no need with the NID resolver :D

this is freaking great news. :)
is it for a personal server or would it just use the files from Sony?...
also, with the NID resolver, that would mean that you could leave out the 1.5 kernal so there'd be more space in f0,right?

x3sphere says:

FYI: QJ's / PSPGen report is wrong. There's no set release date yet. It might be released today but no one is assuring that. I see they are now saying that the firmware was delayed but that's not true. A release date was never given.

The updates will be downloaded direct from dark-alex.org. If in case a newer Sony EBOOT is needed, it will download that as normal from Sony's servers.

The NID resolver was primarily designed to ensure compatibility with older 3.x kernel apps. I'm not sure how well it will work with older 1.5 based applications. The 1.5 kernel may still be needed for those.
