Publisher Ubisoft has officially announced Assassin’s Creed 2, the sequel to 2007’s hit stealth-action effort. Along with the announcement comes official word in the way of details, plus a concept art styled shot of Ezio, who takes place of Altair as the game’s new assassin.
In development for a span of two years, the follow-up sees players taking on the role of a young noble named Ezio. He embarks on a quest for vengeance after being betrayed by powerful rival families that have an iron grip on much of Italy. The scenario is said to offer “more variety in missions, surprising and engaging new gameplay elements, diverse weapons and a profound character progression.”
Our creative team is working hard to top the experience of Assassin’s Creed,” said Patrice Desilets, creative director at Ubisoft. “We’ve made improvements to every aspect of the game. We’ve plunged ourselves into the stunning history of the Italian Renaissance so that we can offer fans a unique, varied and innovative Assassin’s Creed experience.”
Assassin’s Creed 2 is scheduled for a release in Ubi’s 2009-2010 fiscal year, which runs through now until March 31, 2010. Platform specifics have yet to be announced.
