Suda51 Expresses Concern Over PlayStation Move

Grasshopper Manufacture CEO Goichi Suda of No More Heroes and Killer 7 fame has expressed concern over the manner in which PlayStation Move is sold, pointing to the fact that to minimize risk, developers must take into account the possibility that users only have a single controller.

I’m worried about the style of release of it and concerned about how it will be sold. I’ve heard it’s going to be sold separately but you can actually use it in a set at once. Depending on how it is sold, as a developer, you have to change how the game should be made, so I’m concerned about that.

So we have to think about the possibility where the user has one controller. It’s limiting for us when it comes to game development so I guess it will be important to make games that can only be played with a single controller.

Suda51 brings up a fair point. Kinect’s initial $150 price tag may be hefty, yet it is technically more cost effective than picking up two Move units complete with matching sub-controller attachments. The resulting risk may lead to second thoughts on designing a Move experience around two controllers, as doing so obviously limits your effective market.
