Street Fighter X Tekken, Tekken X Street Fighter Announced

Longtime fighting genre titans Street Fighter and Tekken are receiving the crossover treatment, Capcom and Namco Bandai announced today. Interestingly, the two companies are not working on a singular effort. Instead, they’ve opted to develop two separate titles, each borrowing heavily from the represented franchises.

Developed by Capcom, Street Fighter X Tekken is built on the same engine that powered Street Fighter IV, sporting 3D character models on a stylized 2D plane. Tekken X Street Fighter, on the other hand, is in development at Namco Bandai. In contrast to the Street Fighter mashup, it caters towards Tekken’s strengths, while introducing familiar faces from SF into the mix.

Both titles are slated to hit Xbox 360 and PS3. No concrete indication of a release date was given, with SFIV producer Yoshinori Ono noting at Capcom’s Comic Con panel earlier today that they won’t be out “for awhile.” Catch a brief trailer of Street Fighter X Tekken after the break.
