Sony: No PS2 Waggle

The rumor mill section in the latest issue of Electronic Gaming Monthly suggested that Sony is working on a Wii Remote-style controller for the PlayStation 2 console. Now, Sony has responded to the bold claim:
This rumor is absolutely not true. There are currently no plans to add motion-sensing capability to the PlayStation 2 controller.
If Sony is telling the honest to goodness truth here, good… because adding motion sensing to the PS2 controller would not be a smart decision. In fact, it would only help Nintendo. Sony needs to focus on the PS3 and PSP’s strengths. Sure, at the moment it might seem like a smart move to release a new controller like this for the PS2, but in the long run it’d only hurt.
