Sierra Entertainment confirmed today that its upcoming open world title Prototype has been pushed back to the 2009 calendar year, according to an IGN report.

Uncertainty regarding Prototype’s summer 2008 release window arose when a listing for the title on specialty retailer GameStop was updated to reflect an April 1, 2009 ship date.

According to a Sierra representative, the official word is that the game was delayed simply because the development team needed additional time to deliver a quality product.
