Sega announced today that they have adopted Epic’s powerful and versatile Unreal Engine 3 for use in several upcoming projects.
This announcement reminds me of when Sega said they were planning on reinventing the Sonic series. Could the next true Sonic game be powered by UE3? It’s a possibility.
Don’t automatically assume that the UE3 engine means FPS-type games. The engine is extremely versatile and can be used to create games of any type, which is why we have seen other companies like Square-Enix and Capcom harness the power of UE3. It will be interesting to see where Sega goes with this. More details are expected to be announced later this year.
