Rumor: PS2 Price Dropping To $99 Next Week

By way of spy photos taken by a Kmart employee, convincing evidence has emerged that the PS2 price will fall to just $99.99 come next week, starting April 5. Speculation suggests this is a permanent retail-wide MSRP reduction and not a sale only Kmart will be conducting. The move would shave $30 off the current PS2 price point. Not a huge drop by any means but it is significant enough to entice those who have been sitting on the fence into buying.

Previous reports have indicated that Sony is poised to make an announcement tomorrow. Could this be it? Seems likely. Either way, we’ll find out soon enough.

i would rather prefer a PS3 price drop...

its so expensive as compared to the 360... and thats what is really making people buy the Xbox 360 rather than the PS3...

Nice. I heard the PS2 is doing better than the PS3. This will probably make it do even better. :w00t:

Also, will this price cut apply to PS2s that are silver, because the photos only show black on the box codes?

ekmuas says:

mortalinstincts true that.

The Xbox 360 is even cheaper than the Wii, and I see Microsoft getting an advantage here.

I might just pick up another PS2 in the future

My old fat is starting to get a lot of disc read errors now. :(

Same, I might pick one up once the $99 price goes in effect.

My old PS2 kicked the bucket about a year ago. Still turned on but just showed a garbled mess on-screen, as if the GPU went bad or something. Was a launch unit, so of course the warranty was long expired.

Too bad consoles today aren't reliable as they used to be :P My NES and Genesis are still working to this day. Sometimes I get a grey screen when booting up old NES games, but it is probably due to dust. Just blow on the cart a few times and presto, it works.

I like that.. ;)
