Rumor: PS2 Games Hitting PlayStation Store

According to a report from JV247, citing anonymous sources, Sony is prepping a firmware update to enable backwards compatibility with PS2 software titles on newer PS3 units. The release of the update will coincide with the availability of PS2 format titles on the PlayStation Store. Which, isn’t too much of a stretch, considering that the ESRB recently rated former PS2 title Rayman 2 Revolution for a PSN release.
While we can’t completely verify the site’s claims, development sources close to eXophase.com have said in the past that an update to enable PS2 backwards compatibility through software-based means was in the works. There’s no word on “when” we’ll see this update, but early next year is a safe bet.
