Update: Firmware 2.60 for PS3 is now available, check Network Update or download it manually by clicking this link.

After issuing a decidedly underwhelming PSP firmware update last night, Sony announced today that a new firmware is due out for PS3 owners soon. Designed primarily to extend the PS3’s already-robust media capabilities, firmware 2.6 will include support for DivX 3.11 playback as well as the ability to fully access the PlayStation Store through a guest account.

In addition to enhanced sorting capabilities for digital photos, the update adds a Photo Gallery application to the XMB, which allows users to create slideshows set to load personalized music and photo playlists.

A release date for firmware 2.60 was not provided, only that it is planned for release “soon.” That likely means this week, or even today, so keep your eyes peeled. We’ll be sure to update once it is available.

I thought ps3 was gonna have some type of tunnel system for the psp, so psp users can play their games online.

It's out in Japan - called adHoc Party. Not sure when Sony plans to officially launch the service here but you can create a Japanese PSN account then download adHoc Party for free from the Japan store.

Yeah, I tried with dissidia. It works pretty well, but it lags soooo much T_T (probably because I was playing with Japanese gamers)
