Sonic Unleashed Delayed In Japan Due To Marketing Reasons, Not Quality Concerns, Says SEGA

Earlier this week SEGA of Japan made a statement on the official Sonic Unleashed website, revealing that the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of the game had been pushed back due to quality concerns. Turns out that, apparently, the statement was made in error, with SEGA’s Japanese division now saying the delay was purely a result of marketing decisions. more »

Mirror’s Edge PC Due In January Along With Multi-Platform DLC

Posted by x3sphere at November 11, 2008, 6:01 pm

We know a PC version of Mirror’s Edge is in the works, but a question looming on many minds is: when is it coming? Electronic Arts quietly divulged a January 2009 release window as part of a press release issued earlier today, celebrating the shipment of Mirror’s Edge on consoles.

The January release will coincide with downloadable content for both the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 version of the game. If you recall, SCEE said an exclusive marketing agreement was made with EA for DLC specific to the PS3 version. But the folks over at GameCyte got in touch with EA for clarification and were told the DLC is indeed for both platforms. Might upset those loyal to one specific console, but at least this way, both camps have DLC to look forward to.

Specific details on the forthcoming downloadable content have not been revealed as of yet.

Sonic Unleashed Delayed In Japan For Quality Concerns

Posted by x3sphere at November 10, 2008, 6:58 pm

With a month to go before the game’s official debut in Japan, SEGA has decided to postpone the release of Sonic Unleashed on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. The title will now hit the region in Spring 2009. According to an official statement from SEGA Japan, the extra development time will be used to further improve upon the game’s quality. The Wii version remains unaffected by the delay.

Sonic Unleashed is scheduled to hit U.S. stores next week on all of the aforementioned platforms and Sega of America has not given the slightest hint to a delay. Does that mean we’ll be stuck with an inferior version? Hopefully not, but we should know very soon.

Age of Booty Hits PSN This Week

Posted by x3sphere at November 10, 2008, 4:27 pm

Originally scheduled to release alongside the Xbox 360 version, Certain Affinity’s hex-based real-time strategy title Age of Booty missed its scheduled October 16 release date and is now slated to make its digital debut on PlayStation Store later this week, November 13, according to Capcom senior producer Daryl Allison.

The title was delayed last month to “ensure the online experience for PSN users is as smooth, fun, and addicting” as the Xbox 360 edition. Trophy support is planned, but won’t be available right off the bat, despite the month-long delay. Capcom plans to incorporate trophies in a post-launch patch, due “within the first couple of months” of release.

Epic: Used Game Market Is A Huge Issue, Publishers Exploring Ways To Combat

Posted by x3sphere at November 10, 2008, 2:22 pm

Epic Games president Michael Capps has went on record to say that secondhand sales, or the used game market, is a “huge issue” stunting industry growth. Furthermore, Capps says publishers are conjuring up possible ways to dampen the effect of secondhand sales and encourage individuals to buy new copies of games. One idea being entertained is offering paid DLC free to consumers who purchased the retail version of a certain title.

I’ve talked to some developers who are saying ‘If you want to fight the final boss you go online and pay USD 20, but if you bought the retail version you got it for free’. We don’t make any money when someone rents it, and we don’t make any money when someone buys it used - way more than twice as many people played Gears than bought it.
