Although some folks have expressed concern over Sony’s recent decision to introduce a 40GB PS3 model in Europe and Japan with stripped down hardware and a lack of PS2 backward compatibility, Sony UK boss Ray Maguire reckons the new model will do just fine. In fact he states that the introduction of the new model was all part of a “carefully thought-out plan.”
We’ve been considering this since launch – this is all part of a very carefully thought-out plan.
Maguire acknowledges that there has been much hate towards the PS3 over the last few weeks, but in the end he believes that the lower price of the 40GB model will change attitudes.

hmmmz Stripped of the Backwards compatibility.... Everyone knows you need Backwards compatibility Espcially with all those PS2 games STILL BEING MADE and the fact PS3 has a bunch of Lackluster games and a bunch of DELAYED GAMES due to "hard devolping" for the PS3.
Goodbye 40GB PS3 Sales, hello to the Wii360, Sony will regret that since no one wants to buy the 80GB even with the bonus Motorcross game, with it's high cost.
Oh well I got all three systems already and with the backwards capability :) so i'm good.
