Kojima: Konami ID Not A Very Good Idea

When Metal Gear Online first launched, there were issues. Issues that ultimately resulted in server downtime and a whole lot of unhappy customers. And in the middle of it all was Konami ID, a user registration system designed specifically for MGO, which Konami decided to use instead of seamlessly integrating account management with PSN.

Speaking in a recent interview with 1UP, Metal Gear Solid series creator Hideo Kojima admitted that the idea of Konami ID “wasn’t a very good one.”

Honestly, officially, I can’t say anything on Konami ID and Game ID. It’s a company policy. But frankly speaking, the idea wasn’t a very good one. The fact is that Konami’s direction was that we create a Game ID and Konami ID for the online components, and now we’re seeing that it’s not working so well, and we have to think about how to turn it around. It was a concept of an online Konami group thinking, so there’s not much I could do at the time.

Turn things around? Suppose moving everything over to use PSN could do just that. Although, it may not be feasible at this point, considering that MGO has been out for months now.
