In contrast to the full-on corporate takeover that transpired during the merger of Squaresoft and Enix, Eidos will retain its independence and brand identity. While Square Enix now officially owns the company, they will not be meddling with the decade plus reputation Eidos has strived to create. In the grand scheme of things this is a smart move, given the fact that both companies reach different audiences from a discernible viewpoint.

Current Eidos CEO Phil Rogers will retain his present role, now with the increased responsibility of reporting directly to Square Enix president Yoichi Wada.

“This is an exciting beginning to what I believe will be an incredible journey. I am very happy that Phil Rogers has agreed to lead Eidos in what I see as an international marriage between our two companies, a marriage that will give birth to great things. Eidos is a content rich company and a culturally significant business to the Square Enix group.”

Great things? Wonder if that is alluding to the inevitable Final Fantasy and Tomb Raider crossover.
