Publisher Codemasters announced today that it has reached an agreement with Activision Blizzard to acquire developer Swordfish Studios. Previously a division of the now-defunct Sierra Entertainment, the studio was working on 50 Cent: Blood on the Sand until license rights were picked up in haste by THQ during development.
“We are committed to growing our studio operations across multiple facilities and increasing the internal capability of Codemasters’ creative resource,” said Gavin Cheshire, VP, Codemasters Studios.
Swordfish will help Codemasters bolster efforts in developing original content using the firm’s proprietary EGO Engine, which powers racing hits Colin McRae: DiRT and Race Driver: GRID.
