Best Buy Drops 80GB PS3 Stock

Just like the 20GB model before it, the 80GB PlayStation 3 model is soon to be discontinued at all Best Buy stores. A leaked internal memo reads the following:

The 80GB version of the PS3 is going closeout and won’t be replaced at this time,” it reads. “It will come off the planogram on Jan. 28. The 60GB version should already be gone from stores. Only the 40GB version of PS3 will be sold in Best Buy stores at this time.

If history is any indication, not only Best Buy will be dropping the 80GB. Considering that the 80GB is in low supply at the moment, it looks as if Sony has stopped shipping the model out to retailers.

so not only best buy right?sony is going to discontinue making more 80GB ps3 correct?why are they discontinuing it?is there something wrong with it again? =( and ive been planning to buy one sooner or later .. ='(

They're not really discontinuing it, the Dual Shock 3 is comming out in Spring/Summer and will be pre packaged with the PS3. So they're probably getting rid of the Old packages to let in the New packages. It does make sence. Plus they'd piss off a bunch of people who would rather buy the PS3 with the backwards compatability.

I wouldn't be supprised that after wards you'd see the 40GB as discontinued and a new bundle comes out.
