Backwards Compatibility Loss Explained

In an effort to justify the loss of backwards compatibility with PS2 games, Sony UK head honcho Ray Maguire has said that the money previously invested in BC is better spent on game development and to further decrease the hardware price point.

As we come to our first Christmas with the PlayStation 3 there’s going to be about 65 games in the marketplace, so we feel now that there’s sufficient choice in the marketplace and that we’re still better off using that money that we’d put into backwards compatibility in either investing in new games or using that money to help support bringing the price down so that people can get into the franchise.

Speaking further on the issue, Maguire stated that while backwards compatibility always seems to be high on the agenda, “very few people use it.”

It sounds like someone is GROSSLY uninformed. Seriously, jeez. Oh, yeah, the money is more well spent on getting to play games we haven't paid for yet, of course! It's not well spent on something that doesn't make them much money... Bastards. Sony just seriously needs to get their heads out of their asses or this entire console is just going to be a flop...

Damn rights , seriously .. xbox 360 has backwards compatability :/

icedman204 says:

ummmmmm Junit you do know that the 360's Backwards compatibility sucks right now lol 90% of my old Xbox games dont work on it yet lol. and their list is Reletively really small compared to the back wards compatibily of the PS3.

100% PS1 compatable, with like most ps2 games playable and still some need to be worked on. I believe in Japan their still working on the Backwards compatability.

Here in Canada and the USA i think Sony is screwing us over with that.
