Boy Collapses After 24 Hour WoW: WotLK Marathon Session

World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King hit retail shelves last week and as expected, MMO fanatics are succumbing to the addictive nature of Blizzard’s latest, some even taking off work and pushing studies off to the side. One 15-year old teenager engaged in a 24-hour marathon session with friends this past Saturday. Taking very few breaks in-between, he ended up having convulsions and collapsed.

The boy is expected to make a full recovery but his father said he plans on limiting the amount of time his son is allowed to play computer games. His father also warned other parents about the dangers of their sons’ extended game playing. “They also think the boys need to reduce the amount of time they play and will themselves be more vigilant,” he said.

Good to hear he’s making a recovery, but who lets their children play a video game 24 hours straight? I’m sure the kid and his father learned a very important lesson here, however, it’s a shame that it took such a event to raise consciousness.

I don't even like this type of so called game, what the hell is so addictive, about a character, that explores some woods and paves, gets attacked by wolves ETC, i found i was as bored as i have ever been in my life, and you have to pay for the pleasure each month, as well as the price the game...... I give the game 3/10 :o)

Geez another reason for Video Game Activist to say Games creates an unstable environment for children everywhere....... Thanks god there is no more Jack Thompson (sp??) though lol

Wait, convulsions? Are they sure there was no other condition linked to this? I definitely don't have this issue with extended gaming sessions, even ones as long as that. I remember going through every Metal Gear game for longer than that and my only complaint was being very tired.

same here all though i did have food breaks
