2K Ditches SecuROM Install Limits On BioShock 2 PC

While 2K still isn’t yet ready to completely ditch third-party DRM solutions in the manner that EA and Bethesda have, they are recognizing that DRM serves only as a nuisance to legitimate consumers. Community manager Elizabeth has confirmed that the company is taking a more conservative approach with BioShock 2 on PC, removing the controversial 5 machine install limit associated with SecuROM protection.
In a nutshell, SecuROM itself will still be present, but this particular restriction will not. However, that’s not to say all limitations have been removed. Games for Windows Live guidelines stipulate that only 15 activations per title are allowed, a restriction that can be reset upon calling Microsoft. We’d like to see more developers take a no-DRM stance, but this is still a step forward in our books. Progress takes time.
