In a further effort towards expanding its Western presence, Square Enix today announced that it is publishing Order of War, a PC-exclusive real-time strategy effort in development by Wargaming.net.

Promising to deliver “massive-scale battles brought to life with a cinematic intensity never seen before in a WWII strategy game,” the title will mark Square Enix’s first-ever release of a western-developed game outside its territorial homeland of Japan.

“ORDER OF WAR offers Square Enix an exciting opportunity to enter this hugely popular genre, and is a strong proposition for our first western-developed release. With its cinematic intensity, hugely realistic battles and historical accuracy, the game looks set to whet the appetite of any war-gaming fan.”

The game’s single-player aspect features two campaign modes, specifically American versus German and German versus Russian forces. To separate itself in this very crowded genre, Wargaming is employing a dynamic camera system that “allows players to command troops over huge geographical scale whilst maintaining movie-like vistas and detail.” Sounds neat. Here’s hoping this gameplay element holds up just as well as it sounds.

Order of War is slated to exclusively hit the PC platform in fall 2009. Screenshots can be found past the break.
