Manhunt 2 Banned In UK, Rockstar Responds

Posted by x3sphere on June 19, 2007 @ 11:07 am

The British Board of Film Classification has refused to give both the PS2 and Wii version of Rockstar Games’ Manhunt 2 a rating, meaning that the game is banned from legal sale in the UK. BBFC director David Cooke explained the reasoning behind the ban, stating that "Manhunt 2 is distinguishable from recent high-end video games by its unremitting bleakness and callousness of tone in an overall game context which constantly encourages visceral killing with exceptionally little alleviation or distancing."

Rockstar was shocked at the news, and has since issued a statement over the BBFC’s ruling.

We are disappointed with the recent decision by the British Board of Film Classification to refuse classification of Manhunt 2. While we respect the authority of the classification board and will abide by the rules, we emphatically disagree with this particular decision.

Whaow, Thats a bit rash!
Has this ever happened before?
Dam the English ( Even though i am one myself).

x3sphere says:

yeah but not often. the last game they rejected was Carmageddon in 1997.

I don't think the game will be banned here in the states; however it is rumored to get an AO rating instead of M. Not much of a big difference, M is for 17+ and AO is for 18+, but the problem is that most retailers will not stock AO titles. Not good news for Rockstar at all :/

Carmageddon...Oh Yeah... Wow Ages ago!
Not Good for Rockstar At All, AO is 18 and US shops don't really stock them!
How is going to sell?

I just heard on the news this morning that Ireland banned it as well along with another game, I think its law and order or something because it had a pic of a toddler that was kidnapped in Ireland or something in the bg image. I guess its ebay for me.
