id Software CEO: “Piracy pushed us multiplatform”

During his speech this Friday, id Software CEO Todd Hollenshead revealed that while they are still primarily a PC developer, recent piracy outbreaks have pushed them to go multi platform. id is now providing titles for all major consoles where they feel piracy is less present, in comparison to the rampant PC piracy.

While it is true that piracy is a problem everywhere, it cannot be the main reason for going multi platform. Truth is the market is overall more competitive than it was in the past, and in order to stay afloat id NEEDS to market console-wide regardless of how vast PC piracy is.
