Following NVIDIA’s recent acquisition of AGEIA Technologies, the company behind the hardware-based PhysX physics processing unit, it has revealed in a recent conference call that the PhysX technology will made available to all owners of a GeForce 8 series graphics card.

According to NVIDIA CEO Jen-Hsun Huang, the plan is to the port the technology over to CUDA, a C-like programming interface that allows programmers to write applications that run off the GPU rather than the CPU. And of course, all GeForce 8 series cards support the CUDA interface.

Huang noted that the technology could be delivered via a software update, which we hope will be free.
