According to reports, Square Enix is set to release a sequel to Final Fantasy IV. Thing is… it’s not for DS, or any other system. It’s for mobile cellphones.

The game is titled “Final Fantasy IV the After – Return to the Moon” and takes place shortly after the events transpired in FFIV’s ending. Players take on the role of Theodore, a young boy who is Cecil’s blood descendant.

Developed for NTT DoCoMo FOMA 903i+ cell phones, the title is set for release in February 2008.

This has to come out on another platform right? I mean c'mon!!! Cell phone sequel? What's the point of even writing a script for a sequel to a greta classic game and not releasing it on the PSP..yeah, that's right..not the DS..c'mon Square do the right thing..for once.

Could we at least use PeeJay for this?????

I believe a big WTF is in order

Word. Plus, I'm sure it's prolly not going to come to the US... Honestly, I don't mind cellphone games, sure, they're not as respected or usually as 'quality' as actual handheld games, but I got DoomRPG and Orcs & Elves 2 on my Razr and they're fairly entertaining.

x3sphere says:

Doubt it PeeJay just emulates simple Java games. The games for cellphones in Japan actually have decent graphics... about on par with the PSP.

Here's a pic of Metal Gear Solid Mobile running on one of these phones:

Yah, and we here in the states actually got this, Dirge of Cerberus Lost Episode, and it's even from back in '06-

Wow that looks good for a phone.

MenaceInc says:

thing is that games on a phone dont really make much sense to me if you cant control it like a game....the ngage was great for the controls but consumers were put off by its odd looks and the high price at launch.they should retry something like that or release these games on different platforms, maybe even at a reduced price.
