EA: We Laughed At Kotick’s Soul Devouring Comments

by Mike Bendel May 5, 2008 @ 10:57 am

Last month, Activision head Bobby Kotick labeled fellow competitor Electronic Arts as company that takes the souls of the studios it acquires — in contrast to Activision, which he says promotes a business model focusing on “entrepreneurial, opportunistic, independent values.”

What does EA have to say? Newsweek editor N’Gai Croal asked for comment from Jeff Brown, the company’s vice president of corporate communications, to which he replied:

The truth is, everyone laughed. In the past year EA has made radical changes to decentralize the company and put creative control back in the hands of development teams.

“In the past year,” are the key words here. To be fair, EA’s restructuring efforts appear to be working. Many of its subsidiaries, including the recently-acquired BioWare, are rather pleased with the changes that have been made to EA recently, according to Brown.
