EA Hit With ‘Seasonal’ Layoffs, Source Claims Over 100 Jobs Axed At EA Canada

Following murmurs of redundancies at industry juggernaut EA on Twitter earlier today, the company has confirmed that it has laid off an unspecified number of employees as part of “seasonal roll-offs.”
“As you know, seasonal roll-offs that follow game launches are common and vital to maintaining a healthy business,” said company spokesperson Jeff Brown in a statement released to Joystiq. He added, “Because so many of our games ship in the holiday quarter, the team size adjustments tend to follow in the same timeframe. However, EA is growing and several of our studios are looking to hire talented people.”
While there’s no official word on which divisions were affected by the recent round of cuts, a tweet from 3DRealms boss George Broussard indicates that more than 100 jobs at EA Canada were put on the chopping block.
The future remains uncertain for the indefinitely delayed NBA Elite 11, one of EA Canada’s projects. As always, best of luck to those affected.
