Ubisoft Brings Casual Gaming to the Wii and DS

There’s no doubt that Nintendo’s success with the Wii and DS has ushered in a huge amount of casual gamers – even people who have never picked up a game in their life.

Ubisoft realizes this and has recently opened up a small development studio that is exclusively focused on developing games which appeal to the mass market. As a result, Ubisoft already has a number of on-going projects underway, including an expansion of the highly successful Petz franchise.

More interesting, though, is a new set of My Coach games that Ubisoft has lined up. The first game in the series, My Word Coach, will focus on helping players improve their verbal communication and vocabulary in a fun way and will be released this Fall for the Wii and Nintendo DS. Following that is My Life Coach for the Nintendo DS, which is slated for a Christmas 2007 release and will focus on boosting motivation and willpower.

I think it’s great to see Ubisoft doing this. The Coach games sound like they will be a huge hit among parents.

"But mommy, I want to play a game!"
"This IS a game, sweetie! The new 'Grammar Coach 3'. It's supposed to be great, Billy!"
"But Jimmy's mom just bought him the new Gears of War 2! It's so much better than this."
"Well, when Jimmy comes to school with guns you'll learn to be happy with Grammar Coach."
