It’s now official: the latest and third incarnation of DS, the Nintendo DSi, will hit North American retailers on April 5, Nintendo announced today. Two colors will be available at launch, Blue and Black. MSRP is $169.99.
The DSi made its overseas debut late last year in Japan, introducing two built-in cameras, each capable of taking 0.3 megapixel images. Other additions include slightly larger (and brighter) screens, enhanced internal speakers, and an on-board SD Card slot capable of storing media files. Sales have been brisk, the DSi passed the half a million mark within its first month of introduction.
“Ever since the arrival of the first Game Boy, consumers worldwide have turned to Nintendo for their portable gaming,” said Cammie Dunaway, Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of Sales & Marketing. “Nintendo DSi builds on Nintendo’s commitment to bringing fun and creative entertainment to everyone, and will allow consumers to personalize and share their very own experiences.”
DSiWare, Nintendo’s WiiWare-esque download service is also slated to launch in North America. The service will house digital titles exclusive to DSi, with prices starting at 200 Nintendo Points. No word yet on which titles will be available from the get-go, or if the service will be accessible immediately upon launch. Details on that are forthcoming.

Sweet.
Well, since Platinum comes out March 22 and I need to get a new DS. I'll just wait until April 5 and get a DSi instead. :D
