Nintendo Unloads DSi Firmware 1.4.1U, Attempts To Block Flashcarts

In Nintendo’s seemingly eternal battle against flashcart users and freeloading pirates, the company has released firmware 1.4.1U for the DSi. The official changelog contains nothing but a blurb that vaguely mentions “behind-the-scenes improvements” in regards to system stability.

Under that thinly veiled guise is another attempt at cutting off access to third-party applications, a move no doubt prompted by growing piracy concerns. Unfortunately, like usual, legal homebrew efforts take the brunt of the hit as a result.

Several reports have indicated that popular flashcarts have suffered a casualty due to this update. Models not working include, but are not limited to, the Acekard 2i, Supercard DSTwo, M3i Zero, iPlayer and DSTTi. Further, a GBATemp report claims EZ-Flash Vi, iSmart DS, Hyper R4i remain functional. At any rate, bearers of any of the previously mentioned carts will want to wait this one out until a solution is – likely inevitably – found.
