Nintendo DSi Announced: Slimmer, Camera, Downloadable Games

During Nintendo’s pre-TGS presser in Japan, company president Satoru Iwata unveiled the third generation Nintendo DS. Dubbed DSi, it is 12 percent thinner in form factor, features a built-in 0.3 megapixel camera, as well as an SD card slot for storing applicable media on. Photos taken with the camera can be transferred straight to the Wii Photo Channel.

In addition to a slightly larger 3.25 inch screen, the DSi will feature a built-in internet browser, along with a DSi shop. DS Ware will be available from the shop, with pricing for titles ranging from 200 to 800 Nintendo Points, previously known as Wii Points.

The DSi will cost 18900 yen (roughly $179) and is scheduled to hit Japan on November 1. A release in North America and Europe is planned for “next year.”

B2K24 says:

Any other differences besides features and such?
Has the hardware become more powerful?
More enhanced LCD screens in any ways?

x3sphere says:

The screens are brighter and contrast seems to be better as well. Looks like this will come at the cost of battery life though. On the DSi, the battery will last around 3-4 hours on maximum brightness. The DS Lite managed around 5-8 hours on max.

I haven't seen the hardware specs listed yet, but I'm assuming it will at least have more memory, especially with the internet browser being added and all. There will also be DSi exclusive games, which also makes me think they have upgraded the hardware.
