ESRB Watch: Vegas Stakes, Super Street Fighter II

Posted by x3sphere at August 31, 2007, 7:58 pm

After today’s release of Vegas Stakes on the Virtual Console in Europe, the title has now popped up on the ESRB search pages, quietly hinting at a US release on the Wii Virtual Console.

Also rated for the Wii is Super Street Fighter II: The New Challengers, another Street Fighter game which might be worth purchasing if you haven’t already nabbed Street Fighter II: The World Warrior or Street Fighter II Turbo: Hyper Fighting.

Pre-order Phoenix Wright 3, Get A Free Plush Doll

Posted by x3sphere at August 31, 2007, 7:26 pm

With the US release of the third game in Capcom’s lawyer simulation series looming closer, the company has kicked off a pre-order incentive. That’s right, just pre-order Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trials and Tribulations either through GameStop.com or Capcom’s official online store and you’ll receive this cool Phoenix Wright plush doll.

This news is so fresh that the store may not even be updated to reflect the option for a few days, but keep your eyes peeled—there are very limited quantities, so pre-order immediately or face the consequences!

Capcom’s TGS Lineup

Posted by x3sphere at August 31, 2007, 5:49 pm

Capcom has opened the Tokyo Game Show subsection on its web site, revealing most of the titles it plans to show off during this year’s Tokyo Game Show.

Devil May Cry 4 (PlayStation 3, Xbox 360)
Wii Love Golf! (Wii)
Zack & Wiki: Quest for Barbaros’ Treasure (Wii)
Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles (Wii)
Sengoku Basara 2 Heroes (PS2)
Mega Man Star Force 2 (DS)
Wantame Music Channel: Doko Demo Style (DS)

No Resident Evil 5? Well, as we said, these are most of the titles it plans to show off. Capcom has placed three placeholders in the list which denote “Coming Soon.”

What could these mystery titles be? I’m hoping for some new Resident Evil 5 footage, a new Mega Man Legends game, and a Mega Man Powered Up-esque Mega Man 2 remake for PSP. Probably the last two have no chance of happening, but hey, a man can dream!

UK Virtual Console Friday

Posted by x3sphere at August 31, 2007, 3:36 pm

It’s slim pickings on the UK Virtual Console this week with the release of two classic titles: SNES casino all-in-one Vegas Stakes for 800 Wii Points and Hudson’s TurboGrafx-16 platformer Bonk 3: Bonk’s Big Adventure at 600 Wii Points.

Vegas Stakes? Wouldn’t recommend it, there’s plenty of free casino type games on PC. Go with Bonk 3.

SEGA: Most Creative Games Will Be On Wii

Posted by x3sphere at August 31, 2007, 12:55 pm

Good ‘ol SEGA was a little concerned that the Wii was going to be just a fad not too long ago, but now the company seems to have more faith in Nintendo’s console.

Speaking in a recent interview, Sega president Simon Jeffrey stated that he believes the Wii’s low development costs mean more third-party games, as well as more original content than on Xbox 360 and PS3 over the next couple years.

There is no doubt that we will see more risks, and therefore more creativity on both the Wii and the DS in the next couple of years. Just look at what EA is already doing on the Wii – EA doesn’t usually do that kind of game.

Haze Goes Single Platform

Posted by x3sphere at August 31, 2007, 10:38 am

According to GameSpot, First Radical’s first-person shooter Haze is now being developed exclusively for PlayStation 3.

Throughout this year, Haze was announced as a multi-platform title for the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC, then Ubi re-affirmed PS3 as the “lead platform” for Haze. The PS3 version was expected in November, with the other versions to follow suit shortly after.

The roadmap has since changed and now Haze is officially PS3 only. However, a Free Radical spokesperson told GameSpot that the company is open to “new partnerships.” Whether that means the possibility of Haze reaching the Xbox 360 at a later date, who knows.

Medal of Honor Heroes 2 For Wii Is Suprisingly Good

Posted by x3sphere at August 30, 2007, 10:29 pm

Medal of Honor Heroes 2 for Wii? Yeah, some might scoff at the fact that this is just another MoH game, but the fact is it may actually be good. IGN recently scored some hands-on time with the game and seem to be genuinely impressed with the responsive controls, putting it next to the much-praised Metroid Prime 3: Corruption.

The standard configuration is already highly responsive - better than Call of Duty 3 or Vanguard and not far behind Metroid Prime 3. However, after maxing everything out and dropping the dead zone down to its smallest size, we walked away with a look / aim speed several times that of Prime 3 and the ability to a 180-degree flip with the Wii remote in a half second, as opposed to the two and half seconds it takes in Corruption.

Sounds great. Going by these impressions, EA Canada might just have a hit on their hands here.
