Oh Kojima, how you tease us so. Turns out, that cryptic teaser was indeed for a new Metal Gear title, but not on the platform many were thinking of. Konami announced today that the series will make its debut on the iPod Touch and iPhone next year in the aptly titled Metal Gear Solid Touch.

Based in the MGS4 universe, complete with several characters and locations taken directly from 2008’s PS3 hit, the game will feature eight stages in all. From taking a glance at the screenshots provided, it looks like players will control Snake from an over the shoulder type viewpoint and shoot down foes. Konami is promising that additional stages will be added in the future, but did not specify if these will be offered as free or paid content. MGS: Touch is due out in Spring 2009.

Other Konami-published titles headed to the iPhone and iPod Touch this December include SILENT HILL The Escape, Frogger, and DanceDanceRevolution S Lite.
