Daedalus R12 In-progress

by Mike Bendel on May 9, 2007 @ 3:44 pm

StrmnNrmn has posted a trio of R12 progress updates up on his blog. I won’t bore you with the technical details, so to sum it all up, StrmnNrmn says he has squashed various texture bugs, resulting in improved graphics for games like Super Smash Bros. See for yourself here.. R11 is (obviously) shown on the left screen, while the shot of R12 is on the right:

Not bad, eh? That’s not all, he is also pondering some ways to get Goldeneye up and running. Though he notes that Goldeneye isn’t an immediate priority, it’s still nice to know he’s thinking about it.

Update: New update on StrmnNrmn’s blog! N64 classic Goldeneye is now up and running on Daedalus R12. There’s a few graphical glitches, but at least the game is booting now. Check out the screens here.

Update 2: Super Smash Bros. is now running at 30-40 FPS with the newly implemented dynarec!

This guy is just far too talented for his own good, I'm constantly impressed by the depth of his PSP coding abilities.

If only someone with half his talent, understanding and determination would polish up snes9xTYL and DGEN we would be one complete community...

i agree!

If he got goldeneye and SSB working I would die. This is so cool I wish i knew how to do this. Also if we eventually got sound that would be nutz. Everyone already is jealous of me playing these game if they had sound............... Who knows.

Keep up the good work.

new update from StrmnNrmn's Blog:

MenaceInc says:

thats actually REALLY nice to see....if only we could get him to work on the SNES now :P

Krelian says:

With StrmnNrmn's kind of talent and determination, if he were to make the same kind of leaps and bounds with an SNES emulator it would probably be 99.9% perfect with special chip support and only running at 222MHz within a year!

canadajames says:

Go to psp general and youll find compat list for r11 :)

canadajames says:

Well if I understood all of that stuff quoted on his blog I would be proud of him. I wish I knew how to code and stuff. Anyone know of a how to code for dummies book or website.:confused1:

MenaceInc says:

well,if you don't understand what he was on about then you do have quite a bit to go....there was a "teach programming" thread in the off-topic forum started by roe-your-boat where advice was given on programming.

you can find it here

Another update.

30-40 FPS  From my understanding the N64 ran at 30FPS, this means SSB will be running at full speed.

Darkchild says:

:O !!!! I WANT R12!|!!

Cheezeball99 says:

That's great news! I'm excited, I can't wait for the day you can play every freakin' system up to the 5th generation, on the PSP. We're not too far off.

XsavioR says:

wow im excited , cant wait for mario cart,

x3sphere says:

Another update (rather techy this time but very interesting):

x3sphere says:

StrmnNrmn explains how he tracked down the Super Smash Bros. dynarec bug - very interesting read

Darkchild says:

hmm Hex/bin codes? very complicated XD

RJC4LIFE says:

If Daedalus ever emulates Majora's Mask at a decent rate I'll be in heaven..I missed out on that one back in the day..sob..

Cheezeball99 says:

I BELIEVE it can run OoT decently, but I may be mistaken. MM'd take a long time, because not only is it, ya know, complicated, but it also takes the Expansion Pak, which has to be harder to emulate. (I know it's emulated, but I mean with decent speeds 'n' such.)

MenaceInc says:

i looked so hard to try and get MM when it was released in the UK....xmas 2000 was no -go and any shipments to any game shops near were already taken up. :(

had to get a lend of it off a friend about mid-2001...and then i bought it in the zelda collectors edition for the Gamecube....

Cheezeball99 says:

Yea, that Zelda Collector's Edition is the SHIZNIT! Has 5 games, although I am bugged that it didn't have LttP, my favorite. But the reason they didn't is because they came out with it for GBA, and they claimed you could just "get the Gameboy Player, then you could play any Zelda game on the Gamecube!" Well, I'm not going to spend another 40 bucks, considering I spent the 250 for the GC, 40 for the ZCE, 30 for LttP for GBA, and 100 for my GBASP. That should be enough.
