Only in Japan: Abused DS Phat on Display

by Mike Bendel on May 7, 2007 @ 9:07 pm

Chris Kohler reports that a Tsutaya store in Shibuya, Japan had an original used DS Phat on display which looked like it had taken a quite a beating. See for yourself..

The little white note to the left reads: No box, No instruction manual, No stylus, No strap, No AC adapter, Scratches on case, and numerous Scratches on screen. And this is in a glass case, on feature display in the store. It only gets better, the thing is selling for a whopping Ten thousand yen (equivalent of $100 US dollars). Just goes to show you how popular of a commodity the Nintendo DS is in Japan. DS units are so sought after in Japan, that I have little doubt this thing isn’t already off the shelves by now.

The higher resolution picture provided when clicking on the image in the original article got me a much better look, and I can say mine might be worse. When it comes to the condition of the DS Phat itself, not what this used one doesn't come with. Those 'scratches' on the screen may be marks from the stylus itself. I've found that these can usually be rubbed off with a microfiber cleaning cloth. Before I discovered that, however, I was mighty pissed that I was scratching my screen just by using the system as it was intended. I try to keep my systems in as good condition as possible.

As for the scratches on the casing, mine has its share of those, too. And it absolutely bugs the crap outta me that I have no idea how they got there.

Mine also didn't came with a wrist strap, even though I bought it brand new o.O
