Is Sony planning a XNA-esque game development environment for the PlayStation 3? In response to the qualms over restricting access to the PS3′s RSX graphics processor in Linux, Sony’s Phil Harrison revealed that the company would like to further open up the PS3 to independent game developers in the future.

Harrison says that while they still have to protect intellectual property rights, he is a strong homebrew advocate and Sony would love to open more doors for inspiring game developers.

We hate homebrew, but considering our console is failing miserably, let's swallow our pride and open up to the community that helps make our handheld successful! Then cry to ourselves at night because we're relying on the very people we hate and opress.
