New Wii System Menu Update Hits, May Block Homebrew Channel

by Mike Bendel on October 23, 2008 @ 11:01 am

Wii owners woke up this morning to see their Wii disc drive flashing blue, signaling the arrival of a brand-new firmware update. Still labeled as system menu 3.3, the update is said to bring forth a handful of minor changes, including the official renaming of Wii Points to Nintendo Points. Additionally, slight cosmetic changes have been made to certain menu icons.

On a side note, reports are surfacing that applying this system menu update will result in being unable to install the Homebrew Channel. Those who already had the channel installed say it works fine after updating, though. Either way — avid users of homebrew may want to steer clear of this update for the time being, at least until further details are discovered.
