PSP Firmware 3.40 Released

by Mike Bendel on April 18, 2007 @ 1:43 pm

Sony has released yet another PSP firmware update. The changes are quite minor considering the version jump (3.30 to 3.40). Compatibility for PlayStation Network titles (PS1 games) has been increased and the Certificate Manager XMB icon has been removed. You can now access the certificates by pressing triangle and selecting information on the game chosen.

Wow, sounds pretty cool .. For PS3 owners, that is.

I'm pretty sure it won't be hard to decrypt for Team C&D.

Firmware 3.40 is now out, post updated with complete changelog.

Roe says:

I doubt there will even be an oe version of this it has nothing different about it

Tenshigami says:

If there will be no 3.40 OE-A, I hope the changes get incorporated into a 3.30 OE-B.

That certificate utility annoys me by the sight of it.

Also, we're going to need at least a new version of popsloader, as there has been some improvements to pops in 3.40. Increased compatibility for their official titles indicates a major change that could fix or break some games that AREN'T their official titles.

Darkchild says:

Do not alter what's already perfect XD leave 3.30 alone! XD

although...if there will be a 3.40 OE the community will have to make a different TopMenu RCO again...

Tenshigami says:

Not necessarily true. Remember custom topmenus worked just fine for several firmwares. Until 3.10 appeared.

From the features we KNOW about with 3.40. I'd say the only major change would be the lack of the certificate utility icon in the topmenu.

Also, Dark_AleX could still update Popsloader to support loading 3.40 pops on earlier firmwares.

Roe says:

oops I guess i was wrong about 3.40oe:)

Darkchild says:

me too O.o

Roe says:

Do the topmenus still work

Darkchild says:

seems like it O.o

Tenshigami says:

Yes. Just use a working 3.30 custom topmenu. And from my experience, flash it with a homebrew app. When I flashed it by mounting Flash0:/ to USB, I got the ol' infamous brick.
