Final Fantasy I & II head to PSP this Summer

Square-Enix officially announced today the release of PSP remakes Final Fantasy and Final Fantasy II in North America. The duo will hit PSPs later this summer, with the original that brought the fantasy to life shipping out on June 26th and the sequel following suit on July 24.

Both titles will feature completely revamped graphics, an arranged soundtrack, and brand-new dungeons.

Much to my surprise the Japanese version actually has an English mode.

Better than the GBA port? yes. Better than what DS is capable of? no.

Larger (single) screen than the DS is capable of? Hell yes.

The graphics here are definitely within the DS's capabilities, but it just wouldn't be as sexy without the widescreen.

I'm probably not going to buy these, though. I've already played through both the PS1 and GBA editions. I'm also quite turned off about the idea of them being sold separately. $80 to play two games for the third time? "But they're better than before (again)!" the avid fans reply...

I'll pass.
