Microsoft today announced that BioWare’s action RPG Jade Empire is hitting the Live Marketplace next week on July 21 as a downloadable Xbox Original.

Jade Empire saw a release late in the Xbox’s life-cycle, back in 2005. The game received numerous awards, including the honor of “Best RPG of the Year” from review compilation site MetaCritic.

As with all previously released Xbox Original offerings, Jade Empire will carry the price point of 1200 Microsoft Points.

how the heck did microsoft manage to corner the rpg market on next gen consoles.

Simple. They took advantage of the most important element. One of the best genres among hardcore gamers is RPGs and since Sony was a year out and had nothing on the horizon (Folklore doesn't count) they released nothing but RPG after RPG. Think about it, they have Oblivion, Enchanted Arms, Blue Dragon, Eternal Sonata, Lost Oddessy and Mass Effect. Coming soon they have Infinite Undiscovery, Last Remnant and Fable 2. Then next year Star Ocean and FFXIII and who knows what else. Smart move. Sony had a weak spot here and they just dug and dug at it. Whether all those RPGs were fan favs or not is another topic but at least they HAD RPGs unlike Sony.
