Limbo of the Lost Dev Reponds To Plagiarism Allegations, Denies Responsibility

Things haven’t been looking up for independent developer Majestic Studios, ever since it was discovered that their latest PC offering – Limbo of the Lost – contained stolen assets from a number of popular video game titles, most notably Oblivion. Shortly after publisher Tri Synergy caught wind of the allegations, distribution of the title was immediately put on hold.

GameSpot received a response from the development studio today, in which Majestic completely denies any responsibility to the aforementioned allegations. Here’s a snip:

Please be assured that we do not condone in anyway the use of unauthorized copyrighted materials and if we had been made aware earlier, we would of course have ceased development of the product and rectified the issue prior to the publication process.

To the best of our knowledge no one at Majestic, [European publisher] G2Games or [North American publisher Tri Synergy, Inc.] knew about this infringement and knowingly played any part in it.

Let’s be honest here. How could you not know that someone from your own development team is ripping assets from other games? Sounds like a pathetic attempt at damage control.

It's not entirely unheard of for two people on opposite sides of the globe to use the same historical subjects as model references and never be aware of the other person using the same subject. Such is the beauty of the internet.

Cory, did you see the the screenshots comparing Oblivion and Limbo of the Lost? It was copied model for model...I don't think it was a coincidence.
