Yoshi's Island 3DS

Nintendo has revealed that a new Yoshi’s Island sequel is headed to the 3DS. While specific launch date details are currently under wraps, this is still great news because, well, because it’s Yoshi’s Island, dude!

President Satoru Iwata made the announcement during the latest edition of the company’s Nintendo Direct video series. He discussed the original Yoshi’s Island on the SNES and Yoshi’s Island DS, strategically refraining from mentioning the not-as-warmly-received Yoshi’s Story.

Visually, the game sports a different look from the SNES original. Rather than featuring a crayon graphical style, Yoshi’s Island on the 3DS employs watercolor-like art. Frankly, I’m really digging the shift, and while it is a slight departure, it’s still tonally connected to its predecessors.

Keep a lookout for more info on this upcoming 3DS platformer. In addition to Yoshi’s Story 3DS, we’ve also got the new Yoshi Yarn title to look forward to on the Wii U. Good for the little green dinosaur!
