LA Weekly: Grand Theft Auto Movie Likely Won’t Happen

According to a report from LA Weekly journalist Nikki Finke, a movie based on Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto series will likely never happen, due to the fact that Fox owns the rights to Ron Howard’s 1977 movie of the same name.
Allegedly, the two companies came to terms in a legal settlement in which Rockstar agreed not to produce a game-based movie, provided that Fox does not create a game based on the 1977 movie.
An insider told the site that a remake of the film is planned. However, no progress has been made on the film’s script for years, with the source noting that it is “one of 400 development projects” over at Fox. Clearly not a priority, then.
