Bummer! It looks like the PlayStation 4 won’t transfer and play any of your currently downloaded PlayStation 3 software. This includes PSone and PS2 Classics as well as original PlayStation Network content. I repeat: bummer!

As indicated by a report on Destructoid, Sony Worldwide Studios President Shuhei Yoshida stated that the internal architecture of the PlayStation 4 is considerably different from that of the PlayStation 3. In order to save power, the console cannot be loaded with emulation software. While PlayStation 4 users may be able to stream PlayStation 3 games eventually, details on that aspect of the new platform are currently under wraps.

I would suggest you hold on to your PlayStation 3 for a good while. I know I’ve still got a huge backlog to get through. You have to wonder, though, how will this affect the current PlayStation Plus, which offers a bunch of free downloadable titles?
