Back in October of 2012, a few employees from People Can Fly — the folks responsible for both Bulletstorm and Gears of War: Judgment — left the the developer and formed their own studio. This entity would be known as The Astronauts, and at the time of its formation, the new developer revealed that it would release a new game in 2013.
The previously untitled project has officially been announced. The Vanishing of Ethan Carter is due out sometime this year, and it will launch exclusively across PC download platforms. The game is a “weird fiction horror” experience influenced by 1920s pulp storytelling.
Players will take on the role of a skilled detective who possesses supernatural abilities. He’ll be able to foresee evil crimes, and his latest caper revolves around a kidnapping. When he goes to the scene of the crime, our protagonist will discover the grotesque remains of one of the kidnappers.
The Astronauts has stated that it hopes to deliver a game with a strong narrative while still retaining meaningful and memorable gameplay. It definitely seems like a great idea, so here’s hoping this brand new studio pulls it off. Watch out for The Vanishing of Ethan Carter later this year, and check out the first teaser below.
