Grand Theft Auto IV has shipped 11 million copies to retailers worldwide, with approximately 8.5 units sold to consumers since May 31, Rockstar parent Take-Two Interactive announced today.

As previously reported, the title garnered a record-breaking $500 million in sales during its first week on the market, pushing an estimated total of 6 million units.

Speaking on behalf of the announcement, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick noted that “Take-Two’s performance has exceeded expectations through the first half of fiscal 2008, clearly demonstrating the creative, operational and financial strength of our business.”

Overall, net revenue for Take-Two’s second quarter in fiscal 2008 totaled $539.8 million, compared to $205.4 million the previous year. The publisher mentioned that $5.3 million in “professional fees and legal expenses” were made during the last six months, largely due to Electronic Arts’ unsolicited tender offer.
