Sony Computer Entertainment Europe announced today that it has decided to cease production on a pair of PlayStation 3 titles, namely Eight Days and open-world action title The Getaway. The company cited “redistribution of resources and budget” as the reason behind canceling both titles.

Full statement past the break.

It has been agreed that production of both Eight Days and The Getaway will cease immediately due to the redistribution of resources and budget.

“This decision was made following an internal review of all games and it was deemed that with the incredibly strong list of exclusive first party titles coming up both this year and in the near future, resource should be reallocated to enhance those projects closer to completion.

“Worldwide Studios has a reputation for innovative and entertaining games, with titles such as LittleBigPlanet, SingStar,Buzz, EyeToy and Eye of Judgement, and will continue to push the boundaries on all PlayStation platforms.

Can’t say that I’m surprised. The Getaway franchise, as a whole, has seen numerous mediocre installments since its humble beginning on the PS2. There wasn’t a whole lot of hope that the PS3 entry in the series would change that fact, especially now with Grand Theft Auto IV setting the bar for crime focused open-world action games this generation.
